![]() I had a slightly similar situation - just not nearly as much $$$ as your situation is. I'll be taking filling out the application, but first I will try to get a face to face with a decision maker the tollway.ĭude, "The Illinois Tollway" are absolute incompetent idiots. So I find it very hard that I drove 650 in 3.5 months. Regardless the 8.5 months of data shows 349 tolls for $276.12. There is a 4.5 month gap for the violations turns out the root cause was my negligence in not having my transponder in the vehicle. Lawyer said the laws have become more strict over the past couple years and the settlement amount would be the safer move since legal fees may be higher, and the end result, the same. Thanks for taking the time to read this, please let me know if this requires clarification.Ĭalled the tollway and was told I may make a one time payment for $2900 or fill out a non standard settlement form to apply for a payment plan acceptance is not guaranteed. I will be sending in certified mail asking for debt verification, but if this comes back legit what do I do? I would hate to have to declare bankruptcy over such a trivial manner. When divided by $70 (their fee per toll) this is about 650 tolls with a cash value of maybe $400 and they may even be trying to suspend my license. Regardless, I just received a collections letter from the a company representing the Illinois Tollway Authority to the tune of $48,000+. My Ipass has been active with proper funds for over 2 years now the website shows nothing about delinquent records or past tolls. He sensed my panic and he said, "Well I have some good news for you" then pausing for dramatic effect: "You owe $18.47 in unpaid tolls" and your account is clear.Įxcellent. This concerned me so I called a rep and explained the situation. It just said to make out a cashiers check to "The Illinois Tollway". The letter seemed really phishy to me since there was no reference to any account# or ID # in the letter. I received a vague letter some months later saying that my settlement was accepted and that I should send a cashiers check for $2000 to the Illinois Tollway. I was told to fill out an application for settlement and I declared financial hardship since I was a full time student and full time delivery driver at the time. Then it goes to a $50 fine/toll, a $70 fine/toll and a "you can no longer settle this in court message." After a further grace period you pay the cash rate + $20 fine. If you do not pay the (discounted) Ipass toll rate within a certain grace period, then you will have to pay the cash rate. I spoke with several reps and paid hundreds of dollars of outstanding tolls cash value but those were tolls that were still payable. Well I eventually signed into my Ipass account and tried to pay them the toll amount in cash. I didn't realize the databases were seperate and that I had to change my address for both. I came to find out later in mid 2014 that I didn't receive those letters because the address they were sending them to was the address attached to my plate, not my license. I had changed my address on my driver's license when I moved, but not my license plate registration. I also never received the notification letters as they were being sent to my old billing address and were not forwarded. I didn't have an active credit card on file on my Ipass transponder and passed through 600+ tolls over a 6 month period in 2014.
